Aussie Man Simon Completes the 568km Mizen to Malin Run
Simon Chodziesner, the Aussie with a Fanad wife, arrived in Malin Head yesterday (Tues 18th Aug) having run the last Carndonagh leg of his Mizen Head to Malin Head journey. The total run took 18 days and covered 568km. The support from family and friends shown to Simon was fantastic on the whole run with 5 runners accompanying Simon to the finish line including Niall McGee from Carndonagh AC, John McCann, a 3 time Mizen to Malin veteran who travelled from Tyrone for this leg, Noreen McGettigan (Simon’s sister in law) who runs with Letterkenny AC, Cillian McConigley, Simon’s nephew and John Thomas Fealty, a family friend from Fanad. 2 time olympian marathon runner Danny McDaid was also at Carndonagh and Malin Head to congratulate Simon on his achievement. Councillor Albert Doherty, showed his support at Carndonagh and Malin Head and presented a donation at Farren’s Bar, Ireland’s most northerly pub in Malin Head. Farren’s also hosted Simon and his support crew for a well earned celebration at the end of the journey. Donal Kelly, Chairman of Friends of Letterkenny was also at Carndonagh and Malin Head to lend his support. Alternatively there will be collections at the LGH hospital on Friday and at Letterkenny shopping centres and the Marathon Registration at Aura on Saturday 22nd August.
