Annual Golf Classic in Aid of 2nd Ct Scanner to Be Held at Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club Friday, July 1st
Letterkenny University Hospital is about to carry out a substantial refurbishment of the Radiology Department which will include renovation of the area damaged by the flooding incident and the construction of an Interventional Unit that will be utilised by Radiologists, Cardiologists and Gastroenterologists to carry our both diagnostic and interventional procedures on patients that otherwise may have to travel to external hospitals to get this service. While this work is going on, the current CT & MRI scanners will have to be decommissioned due to the vibration, noise and dust. An interim CT service will be provided in another area of the hospital and the Friends of LUH have kindly agreed to fund the purchase a second CT scanner for the hospital. When all the works are complete, Letterkenny University Hospital will be the only hospital of its size in the country that will have two CT scanners.
CT scanner is a modern diagnostic tool used in a wide variety of scenarios such as with patients who present with serious trauma to assess internal organ damage, to assess for CVA (stroke) and to diagnose both new cancer diagnosis or to check the efficacy of treatment on patients in the middle of their cancer journey. The CT scanner is available and staffed on 24/7 basis (on-call out of hours for emergencies). Over 40 CT scans are performed daily during working hours.
The Friends of Letterkenny University Hospital will hold its Annual Golf Classic on Friday 1st July in Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club in aid of the 2nd CT Scanner for LUH. This event has been generously sponsored by Crumlish Appliances, Ballyraine, Letterkenny. Anyone interested in participating in this event please contact Alastair in Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Club for a timesheet 074-9131093.
